Still on Faith…Jairus

In Mark 5, we meet Jairus, a father, who runs to Jesus to plead for his daughter who is on the verge of death. We learn that as Jesus is on the way to Jairus’ house He encounters a woman who had an issue of blood and of course in true Jesus style, He heals her. Then come people from Jairus’ house with news of the passing of his daughter, in fact they tell him not to bother Jesus anymore.
Yet, this is where the story begins to thicken, for me anyway.

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.”
Mark 5:36

This verse literally blows me away each time I read it. Let’s dive into it shall we?
Jesus heard the words that were spoken, I repeat Jesus heard the words that were spoken.
Listen, God is not sleeping, He’s listening right now! When the nay sayers try to be negative, when they try to tell you to give up, when they tell you what you’re doing won’t amount to much, He is listening. You are not going through it alone, you get backing.

Be not afraid, only believe… Upon hearing what had been said to Jairus Jesus recognised where the danger was, and He went straight for it. People’s words have a way of clouding our focus, and reducing our sight to one of fear. Jairus needed a reminder to believe. This is your reminder, believe, believe, believe in the one who started the good work in you to bring it to a good and faithful end.
